Restaurants, groceries, taverns, schools and other food operations that serve food to the public are licensed and inspected by the Department of Food and Consumer Safety. Retail food establishments have regular, unannounced routine inspections based on risk. Most food establishments are inspected every four to six months. Recheck inspections are conducted to ensure compliance. Staff also investigates consumer complaints.
